Hey friends, today I have a really fun episode for you. Since it's summer, i'm always in the mood for a fun drink that's going to make my afternoon a little bit better, be something fun to take with me to the pool with the kids, and obviously I always want it to be hormone friendly and something that's actually going to help my body versus something nasty that's going to cause some issues with my hormones or my energy long-term. So today I have three fun summer drinks for you to support your energy and help you make more progesterone, which is the secret ingredient to having more balanced hormones for so many of my clients. So these fun drink recipes are going to help support progesterone production through a few key nutrients that I'm going to go into, and I will tell you this is not the full system. This is one little piece that I teach inside of nourishing hormones, and so this is a fun little bonus for you for your summer And if you are ready to really see those big results with your hormones, like not having terrible periods anymore, not feeling crazy for a week or two out of your cycle and really feeling that steady energy that you can enjoy the time that you have right now with your family and truly feel present, without always wondering like where is my next cup of coffee? Can I take a nap? Is it the kids bedtime yet? And the full system is laid out for you inside of nourishing hormones. I give you the exact step by step that you need to see improvement in your hormones in 30 to 90 days, which means that you don't even have to wait until the summer is over to have your hormones feel so much more balanced and to start to feel like yourself again. When you join nourishing hormones, you have access to support from me, as well as an awesome community of women who are going through the same things that you are, and obviously you're here today because of the recipes. I have a full 90 page recipe guide full of so many things that are going to help you support your hormones and make dinner a ton easier. Okay, so let's talk about these summer drink recipes.

Speaker 0:

So the adrenal cocktail is the basis of the summer drinks, and the original adrenal cocktail recipe is one that I will give you because I get asked for that so often and it is truly one of my favorite drinks. I drink it all the time because not only do I like the way it tastes, but I also feel really good when I do it, and so I'm going to break down a little bit about the adrenal cocktail and why it is so helpful for your adrenal glands and therefore your stress and your energy, as well as for your hormones. And so the adrenal cocktail is a drink that has three components. Essentially, it has a component of whole food vitamin C. Whole food vitamin C is absolutely different than ascorbic acid, which is usually the vitamin C supplement that most people take. Ascorbic acid is not as readily absorbed by the body, which is why, if you have way too much of it, it can give you some stomach issues, and I personally recommend a whole food vitamin C option over ascorbic acid for mineral balance reasons. It can have an effect on your bioavailable copper, as well as your iron and some of your other minerals, when you're taking ascorbic acid. So I don't recommend that, but what I do recommend is a good quality source of whole food vitamin C, like getting the adrenal cocktail in whole food. Vitamin C is really important for your adrenal glands because it is an antioxidant, it gives your body energy and it helps get rid of free radicals, which are going to be disease causing and stress causing on the body, and the vitamin C and the adrenal cocktails specifically can help support bioavailable copper, which provides energy for the body, and vitamin C is very supportive of progesterone production as well. So that's a essentially like a super nutrient that you can get in this adrenal cocktail that will help a broad spectrum of things in your body. And this is going to be a super nutrient that you can get in your body, especially effective if you are nourishing your body well, you're starting to balance your blood sugar and you're taking care of your body in the way that I teach, inside of nourishable hormones, because outside of that you might see a little bit of change, but you're not going to see the bigger results if this is kind of the only piece that you're implementing. Okay, so that's the vitamin C component of the adrenal cocktail. The other two ingredients essentially are sodium and potassium. Both of those minerals are incredibly important in the body for being able to absorb nutrients into your cell. Well, sodium and potassium are the gatekeepers of the cell. There's a sodium and potassium pump that works to let things in and out of the cell, essentially like other minerals, other nutrients, even insulin and glucose, which is incredibly important for energy. If your cells don't have glucose, you actually die, and so sodium and potassium are super important for cellular energy as well as for your adrenal glands, and so this is why the adrenal cocktail can be so helpful, because it has all three of these components and also it's delicious. So I'm going to go into the original recipe. I will put all of this in the show notes because if you're driving or doing dishes or whatever, maybe you won't remember all the details, which is totally fine.

Speaker 0:

The original adrenal cocktail is essentially three ingredients. It is orange juice, which has the component of the whole food, vitamin C, coconut water, which includes quite a bit of potassium, and sea salt, and you can do as fancy as you want. I really like the crucial for like flake salt, i also sometimes use the just like regular sea salt from Costco. I sometimes will use Celtic sea salt. I think you can use a mix of them and see which one actually feels the best to you, but with a really good quality sodium you should actually feel a difference. You should feel a little bit less anxiety, you should feel a little bit more energy, maybe a little bit more mental focus, and so it should be doing something for you essentially. So the original recipe is just about half a cup of orange juice, maybe half a cup of coconut water, and then I would say a large pinch of salt is my kind of like. I eyeball a lot of things, guys, so this is hard for me to give you like actual amounts, but I would say a large pinch of salt. Do it to taste at first. You don't want to make an adrenal cocktail that you absolutely hate, but you also want to have some benefit from it. So make sure to put a decent amount of sodium in there so that you're feeling some of that benefit. So that's the original recipe just orange juice, coconut water and salt. Now, from there you can get a little even fancier with the original recipe. If you're a busy mama like me, busy lady I really like the jigsaw yeah, the jigsaw adrenal cocktail powder. It has the whole food, vitamin C from Asterola Cherry. It has sodium and potassium And I just put that straight in orange juice. That makes it super easy. So that is something that you can get on Amazon, or I'll include a link for it as well, so that one's kind of like the hack version of this if you don't want to have OJ and coconut water in the house. So we'll see you next time. Both are obviously very, very easy.

Speaker 0:

A couple of fun summer recipes if you've already been doing the adrenal cocktail. The my favorite right now is a watermelon lime recipe And that's gonna be like one cup of cut up watermelon Eyeball. This big handful is also great. How much do you, how many like ounces do you want your drink to be? Eyeball that? But I would say like somewhere around a cup of watermelon cubes. I would do about half a lime. I like things pretty like tart and fun, so I would do about half a lime. Both of the watermelon and the lime are gonna give you some vitamin C. Do about a half a cup of coconut water. That's gonna be your potassium. And then do another pinch of salt, kind of a large pinch of salt. That would be your watermelon lime adrenal cocktail. That one's so good, and sometimes I'll even freeze the watermelon or add some ice cubes if it's an especially hot day. And I want to, you know like, make it a little bit more of a slushy type texture. I really like that. That's super fun And we'll still support your adrenal. And then I also have a recipe for you that is another kind of like easy hack one.

Speaker 0:

If you don't have a lot of fruit in the house, you happen to be out of groceries mostly This one is going to be kind of up to you how you decide to do it. But you can either just use water or you can use coconut water. Coconut water would be the recommendation so that you can still get that potassium in. Do about half of a lime And then add an element, the elementy grapefruit electrolyte powder. That's gonna give you your sodium, and the grapefruit and the lime together are really good. Grapefruit's my favorite flavor. I think that this could be really good with the watermelon element too I haven't tried that yet Or even the orange one, because that would be more of like a citrusy. And then, if you're feeling real fancy, you could put some mint on the top And that would be super good too. But again, this is still gonna give you. With the lime, you're gonna get a little bit of vitamin C, coconut water, you're gonna get your potassium, and then with the element, you are going to get actually some sodium, some potassium and a little bit of magnesium. So you've got that covered pretty well with that easy adrenal cocktail.

Speaker 0:

Okay, and one big thing that I need to mention with these adrenal cocktails is that most of them do have juice and like a blended fruit component, and that is going to be really quick absorbing energy for your body. That is totally fine as long as your blood sugar is regulated and stable, but I would recommend initially drinking these alongside a meal, or making sure you have some protein with it, and so what that looks like is with the original adrenal cocktail recipe. You can do some collagen in it. The perfect supplements brand is my favorite, so I'll link that for you. You can also add a little bit of coconut cream, or half and half, to that orange adrenal cocktail If you were going to do it like mid morning, mid afternoon, which is kind of the recommended time for adrenal cocktails, and that will help stabilize your blood sugar, because you have some protein and some fat along with that fast acting carb.

Speaker 0:

With the summer recipes, i wouldn't necessarily put collagen in those. I don't think that would be too delicious. What I would do, though, is I would have a protein snack on the side, so maybe you have like some cottage cheese, maybe have a little bit of yogurt, just something that is going to help balance those macros so that you don't have a really quick burst of energy and then a crash with your blood sugar, because that is going to cause more stress on the body, which is exactly the opposite of the point of this. And this really truly depends on where you are with your blood sugar balance journey. If you are pretty balanced and you've had a meal within the last 30 minutes or hour, you should be good to go.

Speaker 0:

But if your blood sugar is really unstable, if you're noticing lots of energy crashes, if you're noticing lots of issues with that, then this could probably kind of like put you over the edge and have you wouldn't feel as good from that. So I just definitely want to remind you that it is important to balance this with protein, and anytime you're having, you know, like a fruit drink or something like that, especially if there happens to be alcohol in it, which I will do an episode on soon then you really need to be making sure that your blood sugar is balanced. But even with these mineral cocktails, the blood sugar balance piece is super important. So, all right, ladies, send me a DM. I would love to hear if you like these quick episodes, if you like the recipes, if you want more episodes like this And I hope that you have a beautiful summer day and enjoy one of these drinks this afternoon.
